in response, noise(trade)

Blog two, here goes:

It’s been a while since we’ve last spoken. A good three weeks, I believe? Lots can happen in three weeks…

…and a lot has.

Of course, as it would be with people like we, the most pertinent matter is the soundtrack, and mine is a new album. Classically composed, solely scriptural and completely instrumental; I hope you know what I’m talking about. I’m talking about feedback.

Now, of course I’m a Derek Webb fan. When I was younger I felt the honesty and faithful obedience of the Spirit in his art, and I was drawn in. If you’ve known me through the past few years, you’ve surely seen the near-obsession I’ve developed to his music. It’s strange, awkward and downright embarrassing to admit something like that, but it needed to be said. Moving on:

Derek’s latest album dropped a few weeks ago, barely giving me time to take in the simple complexity that it is; alas, though, I have been listening. ‘Feedback’ is the title and, ironically enough to be called Derek’s own, the whole of the subject matter. ‘Feedback’ (which is disclosed by Webb in full, here) is a sonic sojourn through the Lord’s Prayer. For those unfamiliar with, the Lord’s Prayer is the prayer of Jesus recorded in the Bible when asked of his His disciples, “How should we pray?”

Derek’s up to something here.

I won’t speak of ‘feedback’ anymore, but leave you with this in hopes of receiving some of my own.

And so, it goes without saying (or apparently, with saying): what do you think of ‘feedback’?

What do you think of art, of life, of Jesus, of my ramblings or anything? Talk to me. That’s why I’m here.

I’ll be posting again soon; give me some response, noise, anything, and I might return more quickly and pointed.

(in the meantime, download some free music from derek’s “business”, Noisetrade )
